Head Coach Kevin

Kevin Doherty - Head coach

Kevin Doherty was a 2016 Olympic Coach in Weightlifting for Team USA and has coached for Tonga at multiple international meets including the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The mission as the founder of Hassle Free Barbell Club, which is celebrating it's 25th year,  is to include a wide variety of people in the goal of growing the sport of weightlifting and producing athlete performances at the biggest meet in the world. He has been intimately involved in the development of 3 Olympians representing three different countries. Who's next?

ben hwa - head coach

Ben has over a decade of experience coaching weightlifting after a competitive background as an endurance athlete. He’s coached over a dozen international level lifters including a Tokyo 2020 Olympian. He prides himself in being able to connect deeply with athletes so that he can set up a long term vision for success.

Jenny hwa - coach

Coach Jenny has been a part of the Hassle Free dynasty for almost two decades! Her biggest strength is that she is both an international level coach and athlete which brings a unique perspective to the team. She strives to elevate and challenge athletes to reach their highest potential on and off the platform!

steve rogers - coach

Steve has over 15 years experience of coaching high level athletes. He specializes in coaching Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting.

lee allingham - coach

Coach Lee learned about Olympic style weightlifting back in 2005 through the legendary Olympic weightlifting coach Jim Schmitz of the Sports Palace in South San Francisco. She has been involved in weightlifting on and off, but fully returned back in 2019. She has been coaching weightlifting since 2020. Coach Lee enjoys introducing Weightlifting to those new to the sport and coaching all ages and abilities. She’s a Level 2 coach through USAW Weightlifting and also a strength and conditioning coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Coach Teddy

Teddy enjoys helping clients achieve their strength goals through coaching Olympic weightlifting and personal training. He firmly believes that the only way to live longer is by getting stronger. Through his coaching, Teddy emphasizes the importance of building lifelong strength for health and longevity.

eve shum - coach

Eve has been powerlifting for 7+ years and has done weightlifting for 2+ years. She is passionate about introducing fitness to newcomers and making everyone feel welcome! In her spare time, she enjoys cycling.
